This $1 note dated August 1, 1861 was issued under the name of the Farmers Bank of Bucks County, which had relocated from Hulmeville to Bristol prior to this note’s appearance. Though the relocation was legitimate, this particular note is considered spurious, likely unauthorized and not redeemable by the institution. The note features a left vignette of Liberty with shield and staff, a central pastoral scene with a reclining farmer, and a lower-right portrait. The serial number 43521 appears at right. It is signed by Beatty & Burton, and printed in green and black by the Union Bank Note Co., as noted in the lower left corner.

Cataloged as Haxby PA-184 S5, this issue reflects the opportunism of the Civil War coin shortage era, when printer affiliations and relocated bank names were exploited to circulate questionable notes. Today, it is valued for its engraving quality, regional intrigue, and diagnostic significance in identifying spurious Pennsylvania issues.
