This elegant wall hanging is the Chateau Bellevue tapestry, a piece deeply rooted in French history.
This design is inspired by the Tentures des Maisons Royales (Series of French Royal Palaces), a collection of 12 tapestries commissioned by King Louis XIV around 1670. Each tapestry in the original set represents a different month of the year; the Chateau Bellevue scene specifically depicts the month of August
The original series was designed by Charles Le Brun, the First Painter to the King and Director of the Royal Gobelins Manufactory, where these masterpieces were first woven.
