In 1899, the Fort Worth & Denver Railway was acquired by the Colorado and Southern Railway. In 1908, the C&S was bought by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, known as the Burlington Route. It continued to operate as a separate subsidiary, as did the FW&D. At the time, all railroads operating in Texas were required to be headquartered there. Eventually, the conglomerate was merged into Burlington Northern.
