                                                             I STARTED COLLECTING CURIOUSITIES AT 13 --

   I WAS IN THRIFT SHOPS & JEWELRY STORES, SEARCHNG FOR ODDITIES & WAS TOLD THESE WERE VINTAGE THEN  --

        I FOUND THESE IN A JEWLERY SHOP SOMEWHERE IN MY EAST COAST TRAVELS in NY -- CT -- RI -- MA  or VT.

                                            BOTH have JAPAN stamped on the back & both can be used as Buttons

                          (or turned into Pendants or a Mismatched Set of Cufflinks -- Nothing needs to match, actually)

                                                                FOR  CRAFTS -- JEWELRY -- DECORATION

                                                                                     Both =  7/8" High

          I Googled it to find out that NOH are Traditional Japanese plays -- These Masks Depict Characters of Those Plays

I didn't find out why these were made into buttons -- is it a tribute to wear the masks on a shirt or blouse -- or a costume in a NOH?

               IF SOMEONE KNOWS WHY THE NOH MASKS WERE MADE INTO BUTTONS -- PLEASE LET ME KNOW.

                 When I bought them I thought to have each encircled in a handmade 14K band with a loop to be a Pendant.

                                          Then I thought to collect more & have them made into a Bracelet

                                             Living got in the way & I never got around to do anything with them.

                                      They've been stored in the aqua container in photos & they'll ship in it

           Even though the pics aren't sharp you can see the 2 faces are PERFECT -- no aging or wear -- they weren't handled.
