MK1 Golf 1.6 D, this has been my project of the last 3 years. Log book shows Historic vehicle so is tax exempt. An amazing amount of time, money and effort went into this car. Loads of welding done, inner and outer rear arches replaced, sills repaired, rear beam mounts repaired, genuine front arches repaired, engine bay areas and bulkhead repaired, front panel replaced, and made removable like a MK2 so engine can be taken out on a jack. Chassis legs, front panel inners and rear inner arches have been wax oiled with Dynax S50. Lots of parts replaced -
New Meyle steering rack and track rods, steering joints. Front wishbones, front brake backing plates, front caliper and pads, wishbone mounts,gearbox and engine ,mounts, Febi strut tops, all brake lines and flexi hoses, rear brake cylinders & shoes. Radiator & expansion tank. drive shaft and cv's. The engine was stripped down to the block and resealed with new sump gasket, and all pulley shaft seals and gaskets. New oil and fuel filter. New cambelt and tensioner. New water pump. New aux belt. New glow plugs. All new fuel lines.
The fuel tank was cleaned up and painted. The suspension is on coilovers, so the ride height is adjustable. 4x new tyres. I was going to run this as original paint, but if you wanted to repaint, would be a really easy job.
The inner edge of the tailgate has rusted out, and both of the front doors require attention to the back lower corners The engine was up and running when it was refitted in summer last year, and started first time, however now does not want to start. I put an almost new battery on it from my car and it spluttered and tried to fire up but didnt quite. Doesnt sound like its turning over fast enough. Brakes require bleeding also. I have the air box and new filter. Gear stick needs setting up as linkages were replaced with new. I have the carpet and rear seats for it also to go with it, just not fitted. Still registered on log book as 1.1. Had thought about getting it converted to PD engine or 1.8T, but now decided to sell.
