The Broadway Limited HO Scale RF-16 Sharknose recreates the distinctive cab unit diesel locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works between 1950 and 1953 to the specifications of the Pennsylvania Railroad. With contours reminiscent of Raymond Loewy's iconic design for the PRR T1 class steam locomotive, the Sharknose diesels are among the most visually striking locomotives ever built. Baldwin produced a total of 160 RF-16 locomotives, consisting of 109 A-units and 51 cabless booster B-units. In addition to the PRR, both the B&O and NYC railroads operated a substantial number of these locomotives.

The Sharknose locomotives were known as excellent luggers, regularly hauling heavy ore and coal drags. The RF-16 delivered 1,600 horsepower, beating the F7 by 100 additional horsepower and tying the FA2. Unfortunately, the Sharknoses did not last as long as the F7s, with most engines retired by 1967. This SP fantasy paint scheme represents what could have been if the Southern Pacific had ordered production RF-16 units after testing the Baldwin demo set. All models feature road-specific details, prototypical lighting, and the full Paragon4 Sound and Control System with Rolling Thunder technology.
