The Broadway Limited N Scale EMD F7 with Paragon4 Sound faithfully recreates the iconic 1,500-horsepower diesel locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between 1949 and 1953. As the fourth model in the F-unit locomotive line, the F7 became the best-selling cab unit of all time. While primarily differing from the F3 in internal equipment, the F7 featured noticeable external changes including redesigned grills and dynamic brake hatches. F7 locomotives operated in both passenger and freight service across North American railroads, with many units remaining in active service for decades.
This production models A-units and B-units from fourteen railroads with prototypically accurate road numbers and paint schemes. Broadway Limited offers A-B sets with powered A-units featuring Paragon4 Sound and unpowered B-units, as well as separate single A-units and B-units where appropriate, all equipped with the full Paragon4 DC/DCC/Sound system. Each model features road-specific details and prototypical lighting, with extensive road-specific options including prototypical pilots, operating Mars Lights, correct numberboard styles, dynamic brakes, cooling fans, exhaust hatches, winterization hatches, multiple MU door and skirt configurations, and accurately placed grab irons, antennas, and detail parts.
The Paragon4 Sound and Control System brings these N Scale F7 models to life with Rolling Thunder technology for authentic EMD diesel locomotive sounds. This advanced system provides dual-mode DC and DCC operation with superior Back EMF motor control, a built-in capacitor pack for reliable electrical pick-up on imperfect track (automatically disabled on program track for full JMRI Decoder Pro compatibility), Pro Lighting Mode for prototypical light control, Switcher Mode for precise low-speed operation, and recordable DCC operation for automated playback.
