It is also known as a worm strainer or “ strainer” . It is a rounded metal strainer that fits perfectly into the mixing glass and serves as a support when preparing cocktails.

Its function is to prevent solid elements such as seeds or crushed ice from jumping from the mixing glass into the drink served, thus preventing the flavor and presentation of the cocktail from being affected by them.

HOW TO USE 

When serving the prepared mixture in a glass or cup ready to drink, the caterpillar strainer must be fitted into the top  of the mixing glass. 

This will catch all the solid elements and make the drink pass into the glass or cup in perfect liquid state.
