This necklace is a double-strand cowrie shell lei necklace, a classic piece of beachy or bohemian-style jewelry. It is hand-strung using natural cowrie shells, specifically from the genus and species Cypraea annulus.

I bought this necklace while in Hawaii in the 1970s. It has not been worn since then, and has been in a drawer for decades. It is in like new condition.
