To the best of my knowledge this instrument was made in the Matsumoko factory in the 1980's. In addition to the maple neck and fretboard, I believe the body to be maple too, explaining the substantial mass. The pickup ought be DiMarzio, I did not want to take it out but If you want me too I will. The bridge is an Ibanez, something I did not notice for years.
Some contact cleaner has alleviated the crackles on the volume and tone, the little switch does something, but I am not sure what. I recently resoldered the bridge earth wire making it a lot quieter when you want it to be quiet.
Frets are somewhat worn but eminently playable, I have tried to show in pics. No gloss black guitar from the 80's could be immaculate, this is no exception.
I thought it had quite a good tonal range for such a monster bass but if you turn it up full and use a pick you have just joined the Strangler's fan club.
