‘Grand’ Adam is one of the
most highly regarded makers of the 19th century, and a close follower of FX
Tourte. This is a Grand Adam stick with only its adjuster, no frog. Stick and adjuster are from the 1830s. The adjuster is original to the stick. The stick is very nice to look at under sun light! It glistens.
Possibly a fine player once restored. Jean 'Grand' Adam is known as the 'poor man's Tourte.'
In Pernambuco and in pristine condition, his bows are very expensive.
The stick and adjuster are offered as a restoration piece for a full bow, and that fact is reflected in the throw-away price.
James Banicki Violins (Vermont) can do the restoration. He worked on Jascha Heifetz Kittel bow in the 1980s.
Let me know if you have any question or comment.
NOTE: The last photo is that of an Adam violin bow with similar head geometry like my bow and also made from Swartzia Bannia or related wood specie shown for comparison purposes only.
Swartzia Bannia is a wood that was used by practically all marquee name French bow makers used during their careers, with few exceptions. It was a popular wood when Pernambuco was scarce and expensive. It typically has yellow/orange flecks in the grain as mentioned earlier; whereas, Pernambuco has no colored flecks.
If you are interested in the bow, let me know; I will change the listing to offer Free Shipping, for U.S. buyers only.
