About This Doll

A beautiful antique German bisque porcelain head doll, circa 1890–1915. Standing approximately 21 inches tall, she is a wonderful example of the finest doll-making traditions of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras — consistent with makers such as Armand Marseille, Simon & Halbig, or Kestner. No maker's mark is visible in the photos; one may be present beneath the wig on the back of the head plate.

Head & Face

The bisque head is in excellent condition with no visible cracks or repairs. She has beautiful golden-blonde eyebrows, warm rosy cheeks, and expressive brown glass sleep eyes with applied lashes. Her open mouth reveals a row of upper porcelain teeth — a hallmark of quality German dolls of this period.

Body

The body is a cloth and leather composite, typical of the era. The bisque lower arms and hands are attached, with lovely sculpted finger detail on the right hand.
