This is a standing statue of Amida Nyorai (Amitābha Buddha) carved from boxwood (tsuge), a dense and fine-grained hardwood traditionally valued in Japanese sculpture. Amida Nyorai is the central Buddha of Pure Land Buddhism, representing infinite light and compassion.
