Very nice Mehlville point that measures 2 15/16" long by 2" wide. Mehlville points are from the Late Archaic Culture dating in range from late in the 4,000 to 3,000 BP range. A knife form, this one is made out of a local piece of tan chert. Found in the Webster / Cedar counties area of Missouri. Very well-made point with good form and a classic type example. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
This point is from an old-time father / son Missouri collection - all found by Mr. Roland Shumate (1914 - 2002) and his dad Peter, who started the collection. The Shumate's collected from about 1915 to 1957 and were from Springfield, in Greene County, Missouri. A family collection that was collected over many generations. They hunted in their own county of Greene, but mainly hunted in Cedar and Webster Counties, Missouri. The collection was put into storage in the 1960's. When Mr. Roland Shumate was in his 80's, the entire family collection was sold to Roy Hathcock of West Plains, Missouri (author of Indian Pottery books and a well-known collector) in the mid 1990's. Mr. Hathcock turned over most of the collection to C.J. O'Neill of Charlotte, North Carolina (now in Monroe) at the 1996 Owensboro Kentucky Artifact show that August. I was able to buy a couple hundred pieces from Mr. O'Neill over the years in late 1996 through 1999. This has never been on the market since I purchased it over 25 years ago. I sent this point to John Berner / AAI to type and it had his verbal opinion as 100% good. There are NO FAKE G-10 relics here. Just AUTHENTIC points from a well-documented, old time, original collection.
All relics are 100% guaranteed Prehistoric Authentic unless stated otherwise. I offer a 30 day return policy on all items sold with no questions asked.
I have been collecting relics for over thirty years and I am a current or former member of the following societies: Genuine Indian Relic Society (GIRS), Central States Archaeological Society (CSAS), Authentic Artifact Collectors Association (AACA), and Arrowpack.
Provenience and Provenance of each and every artifact is very important to me, and everything I own I have researched from the original finder - if known - right up to present time. All of this data will be included with every item I sell for all future generations.
