8-element 50mm f/1.4 Super-Takumar with caps, READ

Looking into this lens with an LED flashlight placed behind the lens, I see internal fog around the outside edge of the optics. Photo 2 shows this on one side, somewhat exaggerated by the LED beam. It extends fully around. Otherwise the glass and coating look excellent, with no fungus or mold or any other fog. There is a normal amount of internal dust and debris for a lens of this age and design.

Cosmetically, the lens has noticeable wear in the paint around the front of the lens barrel (see the arrow in photo 3). It has relatively little of the wear on the focus and iris rings that is common on Pentax lenses of this vintage. The focus is smooth and the iris blades are free of oil and snap down properly. The listing includes vintage front and back caps.

This example is about in the middle of the serial range for the 8-element 50mm Super Takumars. It has the common markers of the 8-element design: infrared focus mark between the "4" markings on the DOF scale (photo 4), bulging rear element (photo 4), lack of amber shading of the image (photo 5), and a "2" instead of a white dot at that point on the aperture ring (photo 4).

This lens was donated to the Argus Museum for fundraising purposes. It is not part of the Argus Museum collection.
