Original late-19th-century illustrated trade broadside advertising carriage running gear, issued by The Flint Carriage Goods Co., Flint, Michigan.
This piece illustrates and describes No. 40 and No. 42 carriage gear, including axles, elliptic and Armstrong springs, and 12-inch fifth wheels. These components formed the undercarriage of horse-drawn vehicles, sold to carriage and wagon makers rather than to the public.
Despite the industrial appearance, this material predates automobiles and is not automotive. It also does not relate to agricultural implements such as plows or tractors. The terminology “gear” refers to the carriage underframe assembly used in wagons, buggies, and other horse-drawn transport.
Printed on thin stock, single-sided, with fold lines, age toning, and edge wear consistent with 19th-century trade literature. An excellent artifact from Flint’s manufacturing era just before the rise of the automobile industry.
Ideal for:
carriage & wagon history collectors
transportation historians
Flint / Michigan industrial ephemera
pre-automobile trade advertising collections
Authentic period piece related to family, history or local heritage - well-suited for historical collections, genealogical /genealogy research, or museum acquisition. Vintage or Antique.
