J. Chein & Co. Playland Merry-Go-Round, a classic American tin lithographed, key-wind mechanical toy produced in the mid-20th century, particularly the 1940s and 1950s. This model features detailed, colorful lithographed artwork depicting children on carousel horses and swan seats.

Historically, J. Chein was a major American toymaker during the "golden age of toys". Their tin toys, often sold through F. W. Woolworth Company stores, are celebrated for their vibrant lithography and sturdy construction. This piece represents an era when tinplate was a dominant toy material before being largely replaced by cheaper plastics in the late 1950s and 1960s due to competition.

Measures 11.25" diameter x 9.5" tall. The toy does not fully function, as the windup mechanism appears too weak to propel the merry-go-round reliably. It does ring a bell as it rotates.
