Vintage South African Zulu Hand-painted Clay Bust Statue w/Beaded Necklace
A beautiful hand-carved wooden mask from Papua New Guinea (likely from the Sepik River Basin), brought back to Australia during or directly after World War 2. There are two hanging nails inserted into the rear of the mask – one at the very top, and one on the left-hand side about two-thirds of the way up (the corresponding nail on the other side appears to have become dislodged).
The mask weighs 410g and measures approximately L590mm x W160mm x H80mm when flying flat. In excellent condition, with normal signs of wear consistent with age.
