Welcome to my listing for:
Hubbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co. 1905 Letterhead to Henry Hall & Sons, NY (#7)
Henry Hall and Sons was organized in Highland Hills, NY in 1870, then incorporated in 1882 as a manufacturer and importer of fishing linen, silk, twisted and braided lines and fishing rods. Shortly after incorporation, Henry Sr. reportedly ran up debts with local banks in the several tens of thousands in part from investing in schemes unrelated to the line business that failed. At least once in 1884, there was a public sheriff’s sale of the company’s stock - where Henry came away as the buyer - at a discount of the debt owed. Despite the brushes with the possibility of bankruptcy, the company maintained a large output and thrived. Some of their products were sold through Sears and Montgomery Ward and to this day are still sought after by angling equipment collectors. In the 1890’s, the company maintained an office at 177 Broadway, NYC.
