THE BOSTON MANUFACTURING COMPANY WAS A HISTORIC AMERICAN TEXTILE MILL FOUNDED IN 1813 BY FRANCIS CABOT LOWELL AND THE BOSTON ASSOCIATES. IT WAS THE FIRST IN THE UNITED STATES TO FULLY INTEGRATE ALL STEPS OF COTTON PRODUCTION, FROM RAW MATERIAL TO FINISHED CLOTH, IN ONE BUILDING (THE WALTHAM-LOWELL SYSTEM). THE COMPANY WAS A MAJOR SUCCESS, SETTING A PRECEDENT FOR INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING, AND ITS OPERATIONS CLOSED IN 1930.
