“At the Limit” - Suzuka 1993
by John Keogh
For Wayne Rainey, this would be his most memorable race. Although the new Team Roberts Yamaha YZR500 suffered from an ill handling chassis, Wayne, pushing his Dunlop tires to the edge, was able to slide the bike at will, steering it with the rear wheel. “I could slide it where I wanted to. I was having so much fun.” Winning from Kevin Schwantz by less than a tenth of a second, it would be the last close finish of the Rainey-Schwantz rivalry.
