Standard carriages of the type EW IV were supplied to the SBB starting in 1981 and, with over 500 units, constitute one of the largest carriage fleets in Switzerland. The body is made of welded lightweight steel. These cars are much appreciated by travelers for their spacious interior, with seats facing each other, and for their smooth driving even at high speed. The EW-IV carriages, with various modernizations, are still in use today practically throughout Switzerland.
