This original, first edition book constitutes a history of the Sixth New Hampshire Regiment during the American Civil War. It provides a firsthand account of the regiment's formation, battles, operations, and the daily life of the soldiers. The 6th New Hampshire Infantry was organized in Keene, New Hampshire, and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on November 27, 1861 I served in the 9th Corps. The regiment fought at the Battle of Groveton, Second Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Chantilly, during the Maryland Campaign at the Battle of South Mountain and the Battle of Antietam, at the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Siege of Vicksburg, the Battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Totopotomoy Creek, Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg. It fought at the Second Battle of Petersburg, Battle of the Crater, Hatcher’s Run, the Appomattox Campaign, and the Third Battle of Petersburg.
The regiment was attached to Williams' 4th Brigade, North Carolina Expedition, to April 1862; Hawkins' Brigade, Department of North Carolina, to July 1862; 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Potomac, to March 1863; 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Department of the Ohio, to June 1863; 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Tennessee, to September 1863; Bixby's Brigade, District of North Central Kentucky;0 1st Division, XXIII Corps, Department of the Ohio, to February 1864; 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Potomac, to April 1864; and 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Potomac, to July 1865. The 6th New Hampshire Infantry mustered out of service July 27, 1865.

This original, first edition book is in excellent condition. It comes protected in a clear, Mylar dust jacket (see photo #3). The book is exceptionally sharp, bright, and clean. It has solid binding throughout with no looseness or lean. The exterior is sharp and clean with no wear. The interior is clean, with pages in excellent condition. There isn’t a mark in the book. It has no writing, stamps, pasteboards, smudging, or other markings. There is light foxing to the frontispiece tissue guard which is otherwise fine. The book features a frontispiece illustration of General Burnside and has 12 other illustrations throughout. It is not an ex-library book. It contains a comprehensive unit roster with the Civil War service details of each soldier in the unit, organized by Company and Rank, including full name; birthplace; age; residence or place accredited to; date enlisted, drafted or appointed; time for which enlisted, date mustered in, as representative recruit, volunteer, substitute, or drafted; final record, (includes other units served, discharged dates, KIA, WIA, notes, etc.). Comprehensive index. 630 pages. An exceptional copy of this first edition book.
