This is one of those extremely well built early 1900's cabinets made by one of the top cabinetmakers in the midwest. Originally used as a Postmaster's cabinet, it has been renovated to make it more useful for an office situation. The two shelves in the top section are adjustable, and additional shelving could always be added. The shelf in the base piece is stationary.
The fabulous brass hardware is stamped "J B Schroder PAT MAR 17 '85 CINTI O". J B Schroder was a historic Cincinnati Ohio company known for manufacturing patent lever locks, bank locks, prison locks and custom made locks as well as high quality custom brass and bronze doorknobs. The company operated on Third Street before moving to 1117 Vine Street. Items manufactured by J B Schroder are now considered historical artifacts and some of their work is installed in civic buildings and hospitals around Cincinnati such as Music Hall and Longview Hospital.
The combination of the raised panels with ogee routing construction, all of the detail at the crown and the base and the gorgeous quartersawn oak makes this a stunning, must have piece for any upscale attorney or any business office or even restaurant with the huge storage potential.
