Coming from the Traxx MS2E platform of Bombardier, this locomotive offers many variants and therefore ideally satisfies the interoperability needs of railway freight transport in central and western Europe. It can be used on all European electrical networks.
From 1 January 2021 the Ralpin "Traveling Autostrada" from Freiburg to Brisgovia to Novara Boschetto is transported with groups of the 186 group. The 186 909 is the only FFS locomotive to have the showy constructive form "nightpiercer" and therefore stands out from the other machines.
