Since 1954 the first locomotives of the 2400 series were put in service at the Dutch railways. In addition to some passenger trains, they mainly towed goods and were used in maneuvers. In 1981/1982 19 locomotives were equipped with a signal of the front to be able to circulate on the border sections with Germany.
