Maa Matangi maintains the ninth significant position among all the ten Dus Mahavidya's. She is a ferocious aspect of Devi carrying dark complexion. She is lavishly elegant and refined with exteme beauty. Ma Matangi is popularly known as Ucchishta-Chandalini or Ucchishta-Matangini. She is associated with our ability to listen, which is the origin of accurate understanding that springs up powerful thoughts. She bestows perception,learning, reasoning, natural ability or quality and Skilfulness. Matangi governs speech, music, knowledge and the arts. She is the repository of 64 (kalas) arts. Besides the Mahavidya Bagalamukhi, Matangi is the other Mahavidya, whose sadhna is primarily prescribed to acquire supernatural powers for shatkarma tantrik prayog(Shantikaran, Vashikaran, Uchatan, Videshan, Stambhan and Maran). Matangi is closely identified with and is the Tantric form of Ma Sarasvati. While the energies of Ma Sarasvati are centered outwardly on learning, academics, language, and the arts, Matangi's energies are relating to or existing in the mind or thoughts, on ability to apply knowledge, experience, understanding or common sense and insight.
