This is a beautiful, early trammel; used in the early fireplaces to heat various kettles and pots at differing heights. The smithing work is some of the best I have seen and the large rings and catches are unusually bold. And, the rings are all graduated. This ironwork would have been done by a master craftsperson. It is large, measuring 66." The decorative split work is 10" W. The links are as large as 8 1/2." It you are a collector this is a great one. Probably the best one I have seen. Found in Vermont. But, possibly French in origin. Thinking late18th Century.
