The London Dennis Dart and Dart SLF Hardback
by DAVID BEDDALL
Launched in 1989, the Dennis Dart became one of the UK's most popular midibuses.
Its bodywork was provided by Carlyle, Wrightbus, Reeve Burgess, Plaxton, Alexander, and Wadham Stringer.
Many London operators added a significant number to their fleets, replacing numerous smaller midibuses.
In 1995, a low-floor variant called the Dart SLF was introduced, which, like the original step-entrance Dart, gained popularity among operators across the UK and in Hong Kong.
Production was taken over by Transbus in 2001, but the company reverted to the Alexander Dennis name in 2005.
The final Darts were introduced in London in 2007, after which the Enviro 200 succeeded them.
London Dart and Dart SLF chronicles the history of this well-liked London single-decker, from its launch to its retirement.
