BEAUTIFUL NEAR FINE CONDITION FOR A 1928 BOOK, HOUSED IN A RARE SLIPCASE, PUBLISHED IN THE UK, AND BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED BY FRANK C. PAPE!

Published by John Lane The Bodley Head of London in 1928.  The first printing of this book was in 1914; this copy is a reprint of 1928 p see copyright page.  The title page also notes Dodd, Mead as the US publishers, but I'm assuming this one was published in the UK because the copyright page identifies the printers as Richard Clay & Sons of Great Britain.  The slipcase does show corner wear, lighter edge wear, small split beginning on one edge of bottom corner at opening.  Paste-on title blocks on the slipcase on one side and on the bottom - see listing photo.  The book is NEAR FINE, with no board edge or corner wear, clean gilt tilting front board and spine.  Pristine red page top, rough cut fore and bottom edges, MANY UNCUT PAGES THROUGHOUT.  BEAUTIFUL INSET ILLUSTRATION PLATES BY FRANK C. PAPE.

Found in the book was a single leaf of "notes" from an Angel club.  These notes are dated 1984.

Synopsis of the book found online:

"Anatole France's The Revolt of the Angels is a satirical novel following Arcade, a guardian angel who becomes an atheist after reading forbidden theological texts in his assigned mortal's library. Disillusioned with the tyrannical God he discovers is a flawed demiurge, Arcade moves to Paris, gathers a following of fallen and lapsed angels, and plots a new rebellion against Heaven to overthrow the divine order. The story is a philosophical exploration of freedom, faith, and revolution, using the celestial uprising as a metaphor for human struggles against oppressive authorities."
