Vintage Lionel HO set box only for set 5701.  First year that Lionel made HO.  Box is made in USA but this was when Rivarossi made the trains.  Rather rare in any condition.

Box is in rough condition, and the outer layer is completely separated from the inner.  Needs glued and I will let that for the collector.  Appears to be complete but very shelf worn and rubbed.  All dry and ready to be repaired.

Most likely got damp in the past.  I do not know the nearly 70 year history.
