HISTORY

Raymond (Dick) Gordon Guindon (1935–2022) was an American cartoonist best known for his single-panel gag cartoons under the name "Guindon." His work was celebrated for its quirky style and satirical, observational humor.

Guindon's career began in the late 1950s at the University of Minnesota, where he drew for the student newspaper. He later moved to New York City in the early 1960s, contributing to prestigious publications like Playboy, Esquire, and The Realist.

In 1974, his self-titled cartoon series "Guindon" began appearing in the Minneapolis Tribune. The series was syndicated in 1978 and became a daily feature, reaching a national audience. The book you have, "Cartoons by Guindon," published in 1980, is a collection of this early and influential work. It's a significant piece of his career as it represents his popular and widely syndicated material from that time.

Guindon later moved to Michigan to work for the Detroit Free Press and even appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" in 1984. He retired from cartooning in 2005 and passed away in 2022. He is remembered for his distinct style and his ability to capture the absurdities of everyday life.
