Roman Relief Carved Marble Sarcophagus Panel c. 2nd - 4th Century AD 

This is a fairly large North Italian relief carved marble panel, ca. 1500 - 1600's. The imagery depicts a shepherd in conversation with a seated figure in landscape. In the middle ground, highlighted by the shepherds raised hand is either a hut or a haystack which may be symbolic of a farmers hard work / success. Ex private collection Bath, Somerset.

CONDITION there are overall abrasions - as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
