I have made no attempt to fix this (not an electronics person). I have identified the problem and it's the mechanism that spins the head 180 degrees when you change direction. This part does not work.
Everything else is good - see video for details. manually setting the direction of the heads shows that sound etc works. 
Great cosmetic condition/
