Edna Lovejoy Boughton was born on a farm in Iowa in 1899. Edna married Carl Boughton in 1916 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived on a farm near Manns, North Dakota into the 1930s. Mrs. Boughton lived in Osage, Iowa before moving to Laguna Beach in 1944. Her paintings include landscapes of the desert near Palm Springs.
