The photo was most likely taken during the Great War era. The Noble Adrien Mab (seen standing on the far left) is known to have contracted Spanish Flu and died circa 1918. Interestingly, the card is addressed to a Mademoiselle Bertha George, village of Aisemont, Pr de Namur, Belgique. Seems odd. The postcard was probably purchased in Canada.
The Johnny Jones Exposition was a traveling railroad show of midway entertainment stages, rows of concessions, amusement rides and one of the largest collective amusements in North America. The Exposition traveled to fairgrounds throughout the continental United States and Canada for over 50 years.
Les Marechal Midgets:
In early 20th century France, talent manager Oscar Marechal assembled Les Marechal Midgets, also called Les Colibris Bearnais. Three of the original members were the Bernadet siblings, Marguerite, Denis, and Marie-Jeanne. Denis was about twelve years old when Marechal recruited him.
Marguerite Bernadet (The Princess Marguerite) was born at Barritz, France. Marguerite married Leon Wyatt an average-sized man, and gave birth to Andre Richard Wyatt in Deland, Florida. Little Andre was signed on with Sells-Floto to appear as the son of the World's Smallest Midget Mother.
Denis Bernadet (Prince Denis) was a French-born actor of dwarfism sideshows and film. He is best known for his role as the Munchkin Sergeant-at-Arms in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz". Denis Americanized his given name to Denison, before legally changing it to Prince Denis.
Leona Megest (Dutchess Leona) was born in Alsemont, Belgium in 1897. She appeared at Coney Island's Dreamland Circus Sideshow and was a member of several midget troupes, including Marechal's Midgets alongside the Bernadet family and "Baroness" Simone Flament. It is claimed she spoke five languages. She married and became Leona Parks.
Adrien Esmilaire (Noble Adrien Mab, Little Mab) French native Adrien Esmilaire, know as "Little Mabb," a 27-inch-tall man was advertised as the Smallest Man in the World. He was performing in Atlanta's Lakewood Park with the Johnny Jones Exposition, a traveling railroad show of midway entertainment stages, rows of concessions, and amusement rides, when he fell ill with the Spanish Flu and died in 1918. His tombstone depicts his actual size in Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, Georgia.
