Important information when you order a whisky barrel

Due to the nature of how the barrels are made, it is important to look after the barrel immediately.

In the summer months, the wood on the barrel can dry out very quickly which can cause the hoops to drop down.

If you leave your barrel out in the sun after it?s been delivered, even after a week it can dry out and fall apart. We cannot accept responsibility or a return if this is the case.

Firstly, fill your barrel with water (if it has not already got drainage holes). If the barrel has drainage holes, then soak the barrel in water so that the wood swells up and holds the hoops in place. Once filled with water, we recommend leaving it for 48 hours before emptying back out.

Common Problems and Solutions

My barrel has arrived and a hoop as fallen down

An easy fix ? Turn the barrel upside down and use a block of wood and hammer to even tap the ring back on the barrel. Once in place, soak the barrel so the wood swells back up which will hold the hoop again.

- I have filled my barrel up with water but it is seeping out the sides..

This is caused by the wood drying out from being cut in half to being delivered to your door.

Keep topping the barrel up with water and after a day or two the wood will swell back up and the leaking will stop. In very hot conditions this can take up to a week.
