Ney vs Wellington:
In a splendorous Brussels ballroom gaily decorated and bright with thousands of ornate candles, hundreds of officers and their ladies whirled and spun merrily to the shirl of Highland pipes, 18th century minutes, and English country airs. It was the evening of June 15, 1815, and the Duchess of Richmond's ball had attracted the most respected and dashing officers of the Anglo-allied army, including the Duke of Wellington himself. Certainly, the festivities and merriment in the rented mansion in the Rue de la Blanchisserie did not foretell the carnage and bloodshed that would occur in the next three days, culminating in one of the most unusual and bloody battles in military history. It was hard to visualize these magnificently dressed soldiers in battle, dancing as they were too soft violin music mid giant bouquets of flowers and glittering silverware.
