What is Bone Char Carbon.?

 It is a specialised form of carbon made from high-temperature processed animal bones, usually from cattle. It’s dark, porous, and rich in calcium phosphate, which gives it unique properties for water treatment.

Bone Char Carbon is perfect for both brand-new pond setups and established koi ponds, especially when adding fresh tap water gradually or during water changes.

Supplied in Various sizes so it’s ideal for refilling large blue Dechlorinator Units, if can't see a suitable size you are after please get in touch for a quote.  Using bone char ensures that tap water is free from chlorine, chloramine, and heavy metals, creating a safe environment for your fish.

Bone char carbon is one of the most effective ways to remove contaminants such as chlorine, chloramine, lead, cadmium, mercury, copper, zinc, aluminium, radioactive isotopes, fertilisers, uranium, radium, and pesticides from your pond water.

How to use Bone Char:

Before adding bone char:

  • Measure phosphate levels (aim for ≤0.05 ppm for koi ponds).
  • Check pH (koi prefer 6.8–8.0).
  • Check general hardness (GH) and carbonate hardness (KH).

Adding bone char to water with already high GH/KH may raise it too much.

  • Rinse bone char thoroughly with fresh water to remove dust and fines, which could cloud your pond.
  • Optional: soak in water for a few hours to stabilize it.

Adding to re-fill your big blue Dechlorinator Units.

  • Slowly pour the prepared bone char into the Big Blue unit.
  • Make sure it’s evenly distributed inside the tank, without overfilling. Leave a small gap at the top to allow water flow.

Express delivery options are available and can be requested during eBay checkout.
