Khmer period known as Lopburi, 12-14th century. Terracotta amulet of three seated Buddha from the Lopburi period. These amulets, often referred to as votive tablets, were created as objects of devotion and protection. Thai Buddhist amulets are believed to offer protection, good luck, and serve as reminders of Buddhist teachings. They are often worn or carried as talismans. These amulets were often made using molds and could include materials like ash from incense or old temple structures to enhance their protective power. They were blessed by monks in ceremonies that could last from a week to several years.
