ALLEX is a Japanese brand by Hasegawa Cutlery, who is a manufacturer specializing in scissors since 1933.
It is located in SEKI (blade manufacuring center in Japan) which is one of the 3 biggest blade manufacturing cities in the world along with SOLINGEN in Germany and SHEFFIELD in UK.
This is the letter opener (paper knife) version of the most iconic and the famous scissors in Japan.
There have been many copies or rebranded OEM ver. (such as PLUS ver.), but ALLEX is the original.
The simple and perfectly balanced functional design is very modern to this day even though it is introduced in 1975.
The most noticeable and innovative points for this knife is that the manufacturing process itself had been patented as well as the knife itself.
Back in 70's, all of knives are made from stick of iron with multiple process of forging, forming, bending, polishing etc., but ALLEX changed the process far more simpler and efficient just by die-cutting stainless steel plate.
Of course, precise adjustments and polishing are done by experienced and skilled craftsman by hand to maintain the quality.
The detachable rubber rings, which are installed for comfort, also adds more characteristics to the knife.
It is not just a paper knife but a historic piece, which can serve you for decades.
