If you've tried UV/IR Cut "Hot Mirror" filters and found them lacking — particularly on wide-angle or kit zoom lenses — this is the filter you've been looking for. Unlike reflective dichroic Hot Mirror filters, this absorption-type filter produces natural colour rendition with no colour casts and no vignetting, even at wide angles.
See the two sample images taken with both types of filter. On the first one you can see the colour vignetting around the edges, and the second one was taken with the absorption filter.
Hot Mirror filters work by reflecting UV and IR wavelengths, which creates a fundamental problem: as the angle of incidence increases on wide-angle lenses (below 35mm on APS-C, or 50mm on full frame), colour distortion and vignetting appear at the edges and corners of the frame. This affects virtually all kit zoom lenses.
Absorption filters work differently — they absorb UV and IR wavelengths uniformly across the entire filter surface, regardless of the angle of light. The result is a clean, neutral image that looks exactly as your camera did before conversion. Auto white balance typically locks on immediately.

White balance is typically accurate straight away; if a minor adjustment is needed, a one-time custom AWB calibration stored in-camera is all that's required and then just forget about it.
