Provenance with COA -
Part
of our Renowned Celebrity Collection - 1 Year Warranty
Today's
auction showcases this elegant Michael Kors watch that was owned
and worn until recently by Golden Globe-winning actress and global
screen siren Raquel Welch.
She became a defining
figure of 1960's and 1970's cinema. Unlike many actresses of her
time who were often typecast, Welch sought diverse roles that
showcased her versatility and challenged industry stereotypes.
Her rise to stardom in the mid-1960s was partly credited with
ending Hollywood's vigorous promotion of the blonde bombshell.
The watch has a neo-classic
and very elegant look. It is a large tank, somewhat suggestive
in style of a Cartier, with crystal set bezel.
We have not polished the watch or
done anything to the outside of it - we left it just as Ms. Welch
last used it which includes scratches and wear, dirt, etc. It
has all of its original parts.
The only work we have done on the watch is one of our Master Watchmakers
has installed a new battery making it ready for immediate enjoyment.
Included
with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. international warranty
on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur
of Time Certificate of Authenticity. Also
accompanying it is a Certificate of Authenticity and Provenance from
a well-known auction house.
Included with
the watch is a copy of her autobiography, Raquel
Welch: Beyond the Cleavage.
Accompanying
the watch are its Michael Kors pouch and box.
Raquel
Welch -
Raquel Welch, born in 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, became
one of Hollywood's most iconic actresses and sex symbols of the
20th century. With her striking beauty, undeniable talent, and
magnetic screen presence, Welch captivated audiences and left
an indelible mark on film and popular culture. Her journey from
a small-town girl to an international star remains a testament
to her charisma and resilience.
Welch gained widespread recognition in 1966 with her role in the
prehistoric adventure film One Million Years B.C. Though she had
only a few lines of dialogue, her image in a fur bikini became
a cultural phenomenon, creating her status as a global sex symbol.
The film's success
catapulted her to stardom, and she became a defining figure of
1960's and 1970's cinema. Unlike many actresses of her time who
were often typecast, Welch sought diverse roles that showcased
her versatility and challenged industry stereotypes.
Her filmography spans a variety of genres, from action-adventure
to comedy and drama. Notable performances include her roles in
Fantastic Voyage (1966), Bandolero! (1968), and The Three Musketeers
(1973), the latter of which earned her a Golden Globe Award for
Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. This
accolade highlighted her ability to balance glamour with genuine
acting talent, a combination that set her apart from many of her
contemporaries.
Welch's impact extended beyond the screen. She broke barriers
as a Latina actress in an era when opportunities for women of
diverse backgrounds were limited in Hollywood. Her perseverance
and success paved the way for future generations of actresses,
proving that beauty and talent could coexist with substance and
determination.
Throughout her career, Welch received numerous honors and accolades.
In addition to her Golden Globe win, she earned a star on the
Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1996, a recognition of her enduring
influence on the entertainment industry.
In 1995, Welch was
chosen by Empire magazine as one of the "100 Sexiest Stars
in Film History". Playboy ranked Welch No. 3 on their "100
Sexiest Stars of the Twentieth Century" list.
Beyond acting, Welch
demonstrated her entrepreneurial spirit through ventures in fitness
and beauty. She authored a best-selling fitness book and released
a series of workout videos that resonated with fans worldwide,
showcasing her commitment to health and empowerment.
Raquel Welch's legacy transcends her roles and awards. She embodied
a blend of glamour, strength, and determination that redefined
the image of women in Hollywood. Her contributions to film and
her role as a trailblazer for diversity and representation ensure
her place as one of the most celebrated actresses of her era.
