I've owned these since shortly after HS Trask began making shoes about 30 yrs ago paying over $100 that would be about $200 today. They were a very high quality USA made shoe and might be made from bison leather. I have to wear orthotics, so that is why the insoles were removed. But they were still too tight, so they ended up with just slight use. They have superior leather soles that have a thin layer of rubber over the leather to avoid slippage when wet. I found this info available on Trask ...
"H.S. Trask, a brand known for its outdoor-inspired footwear, was first introduced in 1993 by Harrison Trask, a longtime footwear executive with a passion for the outdoors. The company initially focused on using unique materials like bison leather, which is known for its softness and durability.
The shoes were originally made in the United States, with a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and quality. Over time, the brand has undergone changes in ownership and production locations, but it has maintained its commitment to high-quality materials and traditional shoemaking techniques"
