"Chart of the World."
An interesting map of the world as it was known in the early 19th century. No date, but I am selling a similar world view, in two hemispheres, by Nuttall, Fisher & Co, Liverpool, which is dated 1814. It has much the same colouring and details, so I assume this Fisher map dates from the same time.
Unlike the other map, this carries the imprint at the bottom "Published by Henry Fisher, Coxton, London." Tooley's Dictionary of Mapmakers lists Henry Fisher only in connection with Nuttall (as above) in Liverpool. This imprint suggests he began earlier in London, moving to Liverpool at least by 1814 (Tooley's suggest 1816). Fisher was back in London by 1821. So an interesting and rare early Fisher imprint.
The map is interesting too: no attempt is made to 'fudge' the area to the north of Canada. Baffins Bay is shown as almost landlocked, and the area to the west is left completely blank. Australia is of course marked as New Holland, and clearly the south coast had not yet been properly surveyed. The area to the east of India is marked as the Birman Empire - Burma, backed loosely by Britain, was enjoying a period of some strength. In Europe, Prussia is given a mention.
Size: the mount measures 33.5cms x 28.5cms
