PILOT is a company known for its fountain pen in Japan for a long time since 1918, and they are a part of 'Big3' in fountain pen along with SAILOR and PLATINUM.

Dr. Grip series are the most notable mechanical pencil by PILOT since 1991.
It is diveloped purely for relieving fatigue of neck, shoulder, and arm from writing.
All the Dr. Grip series have innovative lead advancement system, which advance the lead just by shaking the pencil instead of clicking.

A that time, for people, who does large amount of paper work everyday, there is no choice but use pens with thin diameter same as wooden pencil.
Those thin pens were not suitable for long time writing and strong writing pressure, and it was common for many people to get injured their hands and arms. 
In order to ease the symptoms, the innovative thick ergonomic shape was developed, and it set standard for today's trend for the pens with thick shaft and comfortable rubber grip.
