Description
Set in Cherbourg,
France within the social context of the fallout from the 2007-2008 financial crisis
(lack of jobs and economic doom and gloom), the life of several people are
turned upside down after they meet Cecile, a character who symbolizes desire.
She is a 20-year-old girl whose father recently died and she sets about to bury
her grief by having sexual relations with various lovers of people that she
knows and does not know. Chance is her boyfriend and a petty criminal who loves
her, but he cannot satisfy her constant carnal desires. His friend, Matt whose
girlfriend Alice refuses to have sex with is an auto mechanic. Cecile also
gives advice to her friends about how and how not to pleasure men and women.
Unable to find inner peace through various sexual encounters with Chance, Matt
and even Alice, she finally discovers another path to healing…
Additional
Info (copied from rear of case)
In his graphically erotic new
film Q, controversial French filmmaker Laurent Bouhnik (24 Hours in the Life of
a Woman) uses the current economic crisis as a trenchant social backdrop to the
lives of a group of conflicted teenagers. When the enigmatic Cecile walks into
their lives, their deepest-felt sexual urges are unleashed and their worlds
changed forever.
After the death of her father,
20 year old Cecile (Déborah Révy) looks for support from her friends but it s
only through random sexual encounters that she finds solace. Alice (Hélène
Zimmer), who lives under the thumb of her repressive parents, dreams of the
perfect love story but her secret boyfriend Matt (Gowan Didi) can t commit to
anything substantial. Given striking immediacy by the graphic depiction of real
sex, it is these stories of love and desire that form the emotional and sensual
epicentre of Q.

4.0 out of 5 stars “Highly
erotic and very brave film.”

I watched this film, initially through
rental, but enjoyed it enough to buy the DVD and watch again, with the added
bonus of director and actress' interviews. On the surface it is one of those
films that the French do so well: it is an entertaining trench of life
involving a bunch of twentysomethings in a French channel port (Caen is
mentioned in the dialogue) all of whom, with the exception of Matt the
mechanic, appear to be unemployed, with most of the (disenchanted) male
characters involved in petty crime/revenge against a dodgy employer, including
car theft. However the film revolves around the sexual antics of the feisty
Cecile whose father has recently died and whose ashes she has to decide what to
do with. This seems to be a tenuous reason for her sexually provoking a string
of men, and one woman, of varying ages, despite having a steady boyfriend,
though she is frustrated with their sex life. There isn't much of a plot,
although the film is book-ended with the matter of her late father's ashes. It
is more a loosely linked set of situations interspersed with some highly
charged and erotic sex scenes. The acting's is reasonable, the dialogue is
rather pedestrian and the cinematography could’ve been better, but the sex
scenes are great and pleasingly explicit! You get everything here: oral, female
solo, lesbian, heterosexual penetrative, etc. Interspersed through the film is
monochrome film of naked women, only viewed from the neck down, showering
together and talking about men and sex. PLOT SPOILER: They turn out to be the
main female protagonists preparing for the final scene of the film - a sex
party for which all the male 'guests' have paid. Another scene, which helps
lift the film out of being softporn to being more of an art film is the scene outside
the cafe where the action transfers from one character to another and back to
the original, all of whom are talking on their phones! There is a lot of
'sobbing' in the film: e.g. Alice has a good cry after satisfying herself; one
of the 'men' sobs into his phone while begging his girlfriend to come back to
him. Altogether, a very brave film which is well worth watching.

I do like this movie. However be
warned it is rather graphic on a number of occasions.
Cecile is a 20 year old female
who is struggling with the loss of her late father. She finds release from her
upset mind by indulging in a spree of sexual encounters with her friends and a
previously unknown man.
Her friend Alice lives with the
controlling element of her conservative family and is looking for love if only
her parents would allow it.
Ultimately it all comes together
in a sensual, emotional, and sexual manner.
It's a film with a story as
opposed to an excuse to use its graphic depiction of real sexuality purely for
the purpose of exciting the viewer.
French filmmaker Laurent Bouhnik
leaves little to the imagination in this story of a group of young adults
battling with the conflict of desire and morality.

4.0 out of 5 stars “Reviews are
missing the point!?!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom

Despite the numerous
pontificating arty farty pretentious reviews, the obvious underlying story is
not one of sexual discovery or anything anywhere close! It's about 2 girls who
are victims of sexual abuse by their fathers to different extents,(the clues
are given in the film!) and attempting to engage in normal relationships with
lads but struggling to shake the near/current past. The main female character
during all her sex scenes particularly the one on the bed spells out her abuse
(you can't hurt me anymore whilst having sex). The second girl has been physically
abused hence she says she wants to wait for the right person before having sex.
She also alluded to abuse whilst in the car, gives her boyfriend a bj then says
I can get you a beer. Her mother in another scenes says she worries about her
dad always been stressed at work and in one scene her dad enters her room and
acknowledges her growing up and time to move on. Does anyone wish to beg to
differ!?! So please stop focusing on the erotic and such to describe the
content of this film even though the director has chosen to use this
content/storyline for gratification purposes.

movie, Girl interactions with a mixed up group of sexual inexperienced youths.”

A pleasing French movie (English
subtitles) which opens with naked women in the communal showers discussing sex
and tattoos. After a short while you are introduced to the lead girl attempting
to pleasure her 'main boyfriend' and receiving mixed reactions. It becomes
evident that this individual is the one with the highest sex drive and a little
mixed up as she has already tried to teased another at the beginning of the
movie.. This is the main stay of the movie. After that the movie follows this individual
as she seduces/performs sexual acts on a group of friends (male and female
group) in turn search for 'fulfilment'. Multiple locations, and scenarios. The
friends also have a typical friendships and relations with this individual
linking their lives. There are multiple shots of women in showers and changing
rooms of a college(?) for the 'artistic effects' and to demonstrate that women
talk about sexual positions and experience with each other, although the link
with the story only becomes clear later on. The DVD includes all the usual
'special' features; interview with director (Laurent Bouchnik) , stills
selection, Interview with actresses (Helene Zimmer, Letica Belliccini). If you like this sort of thing, you’ll enjoy
this.
