Stunning 1940s Mainbocher Inc black skirt in a lightweight fabric (seems like a light wool crepe) with a plethora of tassels in a chevron pattern at front waist. Side zip with snaps and hook and eyes at waist.
(Decade is a guess; We initially thought this was a 1960's piece, but spotted a 1948 Mainbocher sweater set in the Met Museum's collection with identical tassel embellishment, and believe the skirt must be from the same period.)
No size label, seems to best fit L or possibly XL, see measurements.
Waist 32".
Hip approximately 40".
Length 28 1/2".
Good condition. There is a small mend (see closeup) hidden just behind the drape at center front skirt. Gentle general wear at tassels, one tassel (far left in close up) has been re-wrapped, it is very difficult to see any difference.
