Base end (permanent): The wide foot at the bottom of the stem glues permanently to a large base — typically a 120×92mm oval, but any large base with enough surface area works. Use superglue or two-part epoxy. The 52×33mm footprint gives a solid bond area. Once set, the stem stays on the base.

Model end (removable): The cross-shaped peg at the top slots into a matching cross-shaped hole in the model's underside. Most large flying model kits come with a pre-moulded hole for this peg, or you can drill and cut one. The fit is friction-based — the model sits firmly during play but lifts off for transport and storage.

The angle: The swept-back curve gives your model a dynamic flying pose — leaning forward as if diving or swooping rather than hovering statically on a vertical post. This is the same form factor as the standard 12.5cm flying stem included with large flying kits.

Most commonly paired with 120×92mm oval bases for large flyers, but works with any base that has enough surface area for the 52×33mm foot — including large round bases (80mm+) and large rectangles. If your model's cross-hole is slightly loose or tight, a tiny amount of blu-tack or a thin shim of plasticard adjusts the fit.

Two-part epoxy is the strongest option for the base bond — the stem carries the full weight of the model and needs a permanent, rigid joint. Roughen the base surface and the bottom of the stem foot with coarse sandpaper before gluing. Hold in position for a few minutes while the epoxy sets. Superglue works but epoxy is more forgiving and stronger long-term.

The cross-peg should friction-fit into the model's underside hole. Too loose? A tiny wrap of masking tape around the peg tightens it up. Too tight? Gently sand the peg with fine-grit sandpaper. The goal is a firm press-fit — secure during play, removable for transport.

The stem is clear for a reason — it disappears visually on the table. Keep it clean during basing work. If you get texture paste or paint on it, clean it off before it dries. Some hobbyists mask the stem with tape during the basing process.

Always remove the model from the stem before putting it in a case. The stem is strong but a heavy model bouncing during transport can lever against the peg and stress the joint. Model off, stem stays on the base, both go in the case separately.
