Antique 12th / 13th Century Medieval French Mirror Case

This is an extremely unusual mirror case of 12th / 13th century medieval design but probably mid to late 1800's. Depicting knights & horses crossing a bridge with a rowing boat passing under the bridge, possibly a city being sacked. There are two crouching beasts to the outside edge but it appears there were four originally.

The material is pressed rather than carved & is most probably either leather or gutta percha. There are similar mirror cases in museums but they are largely carved ivory, this one is certainly very old but I think it is more likely to be a 19th century copy if the material is gutta percha. 

CONDITION as per images

The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners.
